Austin is an incredibly dog-friendly city, and when we set out to build a new community of Austin student apartments, we knew we wanted Torre to be part of that pet-friendly spirit! Luckily, not only are our apartments pet friendly, but our West Campus location also means you’re surrounded by excellent trails, parks, and other green spaces where you can give your dog the two to four walks per day that they need. Here are just a few of our favorite dog-walking spots near our Austin student apartments.

Shoal Creek Trail

Travel west along MLK Blvd toward Lamar and you’ll quickly run into one of Central Austin’s best walking trails which runs along Shoal Creek. If you arrive by car, park at Pease Neighborhood Park and then set out on foot to enjoy the multiple walking paths that stretch northwards all the way to W 31st St. and southwards all the way to the river.

UT Austin South Mall

Students often wonder whether they can walk their dogs on campus and the answer is yes! As long as you have a leash and clean up after your pup, the campus grounds are a great place to walk with your pet. The South Mall is just steps from our apartments in West Campus Austin and full of grassy terrain that your dog will enjoy.

Texas Capitol Grounds

Just blocks away from Torre, the Texas Capitol Grounds offer another grassy, scenic location where dogs can be walked on-leash. When you’re looking for a walk that treats you to some visual interest along the way, the statues and historic markers of the Capitol Grounds can satisfy that desire while still offering plenty of grassy space for your pup to explore too.

The Ann & Roy Butler Hike & Bike Trail

By far one of the best places for a walk in town, this dog-friendly trail runs along both sides of Lake Austin and offers some truly ‘Gram-worthy views. Because this trail stretches all the way from the Deep Eddy Pool to the Roy G. Guerrero Metropolitan Park, then loops all the way back west into Zilker Park, you can enjoy anything from an easy 15-minute walk to a full 10-mile hike.

Adams-Hemphill Neighborhood Park

Just north of campus, this small neighborhood park features plenty of green space and dirt walking paths amid live oaks and other flora. Although this park is small, you can easily spend 30 minutes or so strolling around the park with your pup.

That’s it for our top places to walk your dog near our West Campus apartments!
