As we anticipate the start of the fall semester and the temperate weather of an Austin autumn, we thought now would be the perfect time to share some of our favorite outdoor activities available within minutes of our Austin student apartments. When you need some time to relax, blow off some steam, or just grab some sunshine, there’s plenty to do near West Campus. These outdoor activities are just the beginning; we’re sure you’ll discover many more favorites while living at our apartments in West Campus, Austin.

Grab a Kayak for an Hour on Town Lake

If you’ve never kayaked in Austin before, we highly recommend that you soak in the views of Downtown from Town Lake. Nothing will make you feel more like an Austinite than kayaking or paddleboarding on Town Lake. The downtown skyscrapers rise above you, creating the perfect backdrop for a photo on the lake. You can rent your paddleboard or kayak for $10-15 an hour at the rental stand behind the Hyatt hotel on the south side of the river.

Bike or Jog Along the Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk

We love the views of Downtown that you get from our UT student living, but they don’t compare to the downtown views you can get when you jog along the Lady Bird Lake boardwalk. Whether you plan on actually exercising or you just want to head down there and snap some pics, we think you’ll thoroughly enjoy your experience down at the boardwalk.

Take a Rock Climbing Class in the Greenbelt

You don’t have to go way out to Enchanted Rock to experience outdoor rock climbing. You also don’t have to be an experienced rock climber to enjoy your experience. Rock-About offers rock climbing classes right on the Greenbelt, a few miles down from the Spyglass entrance. If you’ve ever seen people rock climbing down there and want to try it out for yourself, this is how you can make it happen!

Camp In McKinney Falls State Park

Camping for a weekend at McKinney Falls can provide the perfect nature getaway that will make you feel like the worries of classes are miles away. While there, you can hike some of Austin’s most beautiful trails and grab a photo by the iconic Falls. What could be more Austin than that?
